The 2017 CrossFit Open: Friday Night Lights

It’s that time of the year again! The 2017 CrossFit Games Open is just around the corner. Are you new to CrossFit and not sure what the Open is? Watch the video above as it will likely answer any of your questions.

The Open is the largest celebration of fitness on earth and you can be a part of it. It is an awesome 5 week test that allows you to see where you are at versus your peers both within our gym and in the worldwide CrossFit community. In the future, it will also allow you to see where you have improved with your fitness and where you might need some work. Here are all of the details for how we will be running the Open at CrossFit 414.

When: The workouts for the Open are released on Thursday nights for 5 weeks. We will be doing them on Friday evenings as part of our Friday Night Lights events. The dates for those are:

  • Week One: Friday, February 24th at 5pm
  • Week Two: Friday, March 3rd at 5pm
  • Week Three: Friday, March 10th at 5pm
  • Week Four: Friday, March 17th at 5pm
  • Week Five: Friday, March 24th at 5pm

Each week the gym will be Open at 430pm for you to start warming up. If you need to leave early just make sure to sign up for one of the first heats. If you can’t make it at 5pm just show up as soon as possible. I anticipate running heats until at least 7pm each week. Plan to stick around after you workout to cheer on your fellow athletes and have some celebratory drinks.

How to register: Go here and click the register button. There is a $20 fee that goes to CrossFit HQ. In order to participate in the Open and Friday Night Lights you do not need to be officially registered. But, if you want to get on the leaderboard you must. By registering you will be able to compare yourself on the global scale and also will have a gauge for where your fitness is at next year. Make sure to join our team (CrossFit 414). If you have already registered make sure to join the team as well.

The Workouts: There are two divisions within the Open (As Prescribed and Scaled). So, the workouts are accessible to all ability levels. They are always challenging but will definitely leave you with a great sense of accomplishment.

Please ask the coaches in any of our classes if you would like more details on the Open. Otherwise, mark your calendars and plan to have an awesome time at Friday Night Lights!

If you are unable to make the Friday Night Lights Open workout we will also be completing it as our Friday class workout. But, there is no guarantee that there will be judges to verify your score unless you are at Friday Night Lights. The other time that you can make up the workout is at Sunday Open Gym.
