Introducing our member of the month for September… Heskeith!
Heskeith balances his pursuit of fitness at the gym with his demanding work as a chef and is able to excel at both. Notably, he qualified for the CrossFit Games in both 2019 and 2020 as a representative for his home country of Saint Lucia. Unfortunately, the CrossFit Games had to drastically alter their competition this year and he will not be able to compete. For most this would cause a drop in their fitness. But, Heskeith has continued to set new PRs and stay consistent with his progress. Check out the interview we did with him:
Why did you join CrossFit 414?
I joined Crossfit 414 because it was easy to get to and had a diverse and welcoming group of people.
Are you a Milwaukee local?
I’m originally from St.Lucia but have been living in the US since 2000.
How long have you been a CrossFit 414 member?
I’ve been a member at 414 since June of 2018.
Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
I played football(soccer), cricket and ran track in high school. I joined CrossFit in November, 2014 at CrossFit Virtus in Louisiana. I’ve always found a CrossFit gym after no matter where I go.
What encourages you to keep coming back?
I keep coming back because I feel I’m part of this amazing community that pushes you to better yourself.
How has CrossFit 414 helped you in your line of work?
I do CrossFit because it keeps me focused, gives me a boost of energy and a positive mentality to tackle my day to day workload.
What do you like most about being a member?
I enjoy being a member at 414 because of all the love and support you get from the team.
Tell me about your nutrition since joining CrossFit 414?
My nutrition has changed dramatically, I follow the Whole 9 lifestyle because it shows you how important it is to use the right food for fuel for your body.
Where have you noticed success?
I’m a lot stronger and make healthier choices.
What do you do outside of CrossFit 414 to stay active?
I enjoy hiking.
What milestones have you achieved since joining CrossFit 414?
Since I joined 414 I have been coached in order to qualify for the CrossFit Games twice.
What do you tell yourself before starting a challenging WOD?
Before starting a challenging WOD, I tell myself that I will feel great when it’s all done as long as I give it my all.
What is your next fitness goal?
My next fitness goal is CrossFit Games 2021.
For people who haven’t joined yet, what would you tell them?
If you are considering CrossFit, I will tell you that CrossFit has changed my life for the better. I make smarter health choices. I have a sense of purpose in the community. I have the energy to do a better job and I’ve made lifelong friends.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I will be 40 in December and still keep up with the younger guys!
