02072018- Valentine’s Day Ladies Only Workout this Sunday

There will be no Open Gym this Sunday as there will be a ladies only workout going down. For all of the ladies, plan to meet at the gym at 10am. Coach Sam will lead everyone through a workout and then have some tasty brunch dishes after. This has been a hit in years past. So, make sure to be there!

Speaking of Coach Sam, check out her new blog post on Whole 30 Takeaways from YTB Nutrition:

For the month of January I embarked on my fourth Whole30. For 30 days I ate fruits, vegetables, meats, nuts, and seeds and avoided all dairy, grains, alcohol, sugar, and legumes. This reset was a great start to my year so today I wanted to do a quick recap of my experience. Instead of trying to convince you that you need to do a Whole30 (although I do think it is VERY beneficial for every one to try at least once) I’d rather provide some bigger picture takeaways that can be applied to healthy eating in general.

  • Planning is key. Eating healthy is all about being prepared. If you have healthy options readily available you are much more likely to stick to your preferred diet. When your fridge is empty and you’re feeling lazy, fast food/delivery becomes the best option – which leads to my next point..
  • You can always find a healthier option when dining out. Of course my situation was a little more extreme since with the Whole30 you have to be conscious of cooking oils, etc. but I was still able to make it work a couple of times! For example, I went out for a burger one night and had it lettuce wrapped/with no cheese and opted for a compliant coleslaw instead of fries. Another night out I had fresh oysters and shrimp. The point here is that you shouldn’t be afraid to speak up about your preferences when you’re eating out and if you get creative you should be fine.
  • Food/drinks aren’t the only way to ‘treat’ yourself. I don’t want to dive too deep into food psychology here but we live in a culture where food and drinks, usually the less-healthy options, are used to celebrate everything from birthdays, to promotions, holidays, to even just the fact that you made it to the weekend or end of a long day. That’s all fun and good but sometimes we over-indulge and during these 30 days I had to find other ways to treat myself. I did this by buying some of my favorite tea, getting my nails done, and trying all sorts of fun new recipes.

I hope some of these thoughts resonated with you! If you have any questions about the Whole30 program I would be more than happy to answer them for you.
